The Fort Monmouth Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program trains people to respond to emergency situations at their workplace and in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize volunteers at a disaster site.
CERT members also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community. Eric Martin, a technical rescue expert with “Over the Edge, Inc.”, told the class that Safety, search methodology, and always keeping the missing subject and the family in mind were three key factors.
Training was provided free of charge to CERT members through Barbara Ruane, program manager and Michael T. Ruane, both emergency management consultants from the James Thomas Group.  Michael Ruane and 14 members comprise the Fort Monmouth team and he is also a member of the Garrison’s Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security.
